Meet Dr. Janice Ko

Nice to meet you virtually! I am the dentist you will meet at Smile Stories Dentistry.  Many years ago, I walked into this very same building for the first time as a kid to become Dr. Alicia Ramos' patient.  As my interest in dentistry grew, I also worked as an intern at this office before going to dental school.  It has been a full circle, and I feel grateful to return to my first dental home as a provider now and to continue serving our wonderful patients.

I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish.  I then adventured up to New York City where I studied and received her Master of Science in Human Nutrition at Columbia University.  Although I fell in love with New York City, I returned to North Carolina to study at UNC Adams School of Dentistry, one of the greatest dental schools in the U.S.  While in dental school, I participated in many local and international dental projects.  I served as a co-chair of the Give Kids A Smile program, a coordinator of the Hispanic Dental Association, a clinic coordinator of the SHAC clinic at UNC, and a participating member of the Mexico mission trip and local clinic events such as NC MoM.

After graduating from dental school, I decided to stay in my home state and worked with a wonderful practice in Asheboro, serving Randolph County, and helped other dental offices in the Triangle area before settling into my permanent dental home in Durham.  I set my daily goal as a dentist to become an even better dentist than I was the day before to provide the best possible care for my patients.  I love learning and continuously travel to attend the lectures given by amazingly talented dentists.  I also completed rigorous training and now participate as an active alumnus at the world-renowned Kois Center in Seattle which provides the highest level of training in the latest advances in dentistry.  As much as I enjoy clinical dentistry, I truly find joy inbuilding long-term relationships with my patients and team, sharing each other's life stories, and being part of each other's new stories.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my story, and now I look forward to hearing about yours!
